La Croisette Guide for Cruise Passengers

Three kilometres of Mediterranean glamour — Cannes' legendary seaside boulevard, minutes from the Gare Maritime.

La Croisette is Cannes' defining boulevard — a palm-shaded promenade between designer boutiques, grand hotels and private beach clubs, with the bay on one side and Belle Époque architecture on the other. From Quai Laubeuf it is a flat 10–15 minute walk, making it one of the easiest highlights to reach on any port day.

The boulevard runs east from the Palais des Festivals — home of the Cannes Film Festival — toward Pointe de la Croisette and the Port Canto superyacht marina. Even outside May's festival frenzy, the red-carpet steps and palace façade draw photographers. Luxury brands line the shaded pavement; window-shopping costs nothing and the people-watching is free.

Private beach clubs (plages privées) dot the seaward side, renting loungers and umbrellas for €25–40 per person in peak season. Public stretches exist at either end — Plage du Midi west of the centre and sections near the port — if you prefer sand without the club fee.

La Croisette pairs naturally with Le Suquet above and the old port beside it. A morning market visit at Forville, a Croisette stroll and an afternoon harbour coffee make a complete Cannes day without leaving town.

Walking La Croisette: what to expect

The full promenade from Palais des Festivals to Pointe de la Croisette takes 45–60 minutes one way at a leisurely pace. Most cruise passengers cover the central section — festival palace to Carlton hotel — in 90 minutes including photo stops and a café break.

Afternoon heat can be intense June through August. Morning walks are cooler and less crowded. If your ship departs late, sunset light on the Estérel hills across the bay is worth delaying your return from the far point.

Highlights

  • Palais des Festivals and iconic red-carpet steps
  • Carlton, Martinez and Majestic hotel façades
  • Designer boutiques and Mediterranean people-watching
  • Private beach clubs with lounger rental
  • Port Canto superyacht marina at the eastern point
  • Flat, accessible walking from the cruise terminal

Practical tips

  • Walk the Croisette before noon in summer — afternoon sun is fierce on the open promenade
  • Bring a cover-up if you plan to enter hotel lobbies or upscale cafés
  • Public toilets are limited — use café facilities with a purchase
  • Combine with Le Suquet for a hill-and-boulevard contrast in one morning
  • Allow 45 minutes return buffer to Gare Maritime even on foot

La Croisette Guide for Cruise Passengers — FAQs

How far is La Croisette from the Cannes cruise port?

The Palais des Festivals at the foot of La Croisette is approximately 10–15 minutes on foot from Gare Maritime at Quai Laubeuf — flat, straightforward walking.

Are Cannes beach clubs worth it on a port day?

If your priority is relaxation over sightseeing, a club lounger saves hunting for public space in peak season. Allow 2–3 hours minimum and confirm meeting time back at the terminal.

When is the Film Festival and does it affect cruise calls?

The Cannes Film Festival runs in May. During festival fortnight the Croisette is crowded and some areas are restricted. Outside festival dates the boulevard is calm and fully accessible.
